A Modern Day Viking Reveals His Secrets to Elite Health.



Luca Gattini is not your ordinary personal trainer.

He considers himself a true 21st century Viking, and models much of his mindset and training strategies on the Nordic warriors that ruled the lands and seas of much of our world many hundreds of years ago.

“So let’s talk about supplements. What to take and when to take them. 

First let me give you a bit of background on most of the food we take today. I’m not going to get too technical, I just want to tell you why supplements are very important. 

Unfortunately, almost all of what we eat these days is not anything like what we used to eat 10, 20, 30 years ago. Especially if you see fruit for example, or even vegetables. 

Cut open an apple today and see how long it takes to rot. That never happened 30 years ago. Back then you would cut it up and it would go off. After just a day in the fridge it would basically go brown and rot. So what we eat today is nothing (nutritionally) like what we used to eat many years ago. The nutrients are not the same. We lost a lot because of pollution and changes in the soil. 


So why I do recommend supplements? Because our body today needs it. Our lifestyle is not the same as the one our parents or grandparents lived. What we get in our body today (from food) is just not the same as what we got in the past.

The World Health Organization suggest that we eat between five to nine serves of fruit and vegetables a day, which is very, very hard for most of us. 

For me, for example, I am a personal trainer and I often cook on the weekends, but it is still hard for me to eat so much fruit and vege’s in a day. So then, that’s why I take I take supplements. Because even if I eat properly – and believe me I do my best to eat properly – the food simply does not give all the nutrients my body needs.

In saying that, let’s talk about three products that I use and recommend, not only for sports people, but for every human being. The first, which I feel is the most important, is that every person should take an antioxidant every day. 

Antioxidants fight free radicals in your body. Free radicals are basically caused by an oxidization of cells that occur when we breathe, as we age, and due to pollution.

Stress! Stress is a big factor on the creation of free radicals. And what free radicals do is they create unstable cells, which have been shown to play a part in some forms of cancer and degenerative diseases.

So the product that I take two to three times a day is a berry mix called Mistica. It’s full of red berries, and what it does is basically regenerate the cells faster. In a sports environment, it helps you to recover faster, because when you exercise - whether for a little or long time - you breathe heavily and your heart pumps faster, so your cells oxidise faster. The Mistica antioxidant helps you to recover faster, helps clean the cells and make them more vibrant.

I’ll give you a simple example. If you take an apple, as I mentioned before, and cut the apple, leave it outside the fridge for a few days and it becomes brown, so basically it has oxidised. But if you cut away the brown part, you may be still able to eat a little bit of the remaining apple. So this is what an antioxidant can do, it clears the ‘brown part’ of your cell that has now oxidised and is old, and creates a barrier around your cell to make it new and functional again. Mistica is fabulous for your skin, for your hair, your nails…it basically makes your cells healthy and vibrant.

Another product I find amazing, but often underestimated, is a product that basically cleanses your liver. And I use this product called Core Greens. Core Greens is a powder mix of vegetables and green leaves, and what it does is clean your liver. 

Like I said before, we are supposed to eat five to nine serves of fruit and vegetables a day, but we don’t because of our
lifestyle and how busy we get. With Core Greens I can be sure I give my body the nutrients to get the required amount of fruit and vege’s.

Let me use a car as an example. In a car there is a filter which is similar to the liver in the human body. If your filter in the car is dirty, it doesn’t matter if you put clean oil – or in our case good nutrients – your filter will still be filled with dirt and very little of the good, clean oil. Same as the human body. If your liver is dirty but you eat clean, you won’t lose the weight you want to lose, because that liver is clogged and dirty. So what do you have to do? You have to clear it with the Greens.

There has been a lot of research that shows that many sicknesses evolve because there is a lack of good healthy bacteria in our stomach. That’s why it is important to consume vegetables. Keeping good flora inside our intestines prevents sickness quite often. Sports-wise it makes sure your liver is functional. So when you eat properly and you supplement with quality supplementation, the nutrients go where they have to go and they don’t get stuck in the liver and are allowed to basically flush out or get where they are most needed.
 
Last but not least, I use what is called ProArgi9+. This is a great product I discovered a few months ago. Basically it is l-arginine, which is an amino acid. The scientists behind its discovery actually were awarded a Nobel Prize in 1998. 

When you take in l-arginine, it transforms into nitric oxide. What it does from there are a number of functions. It clears your arteries and improves your heart function. It helps your cardiovascular system.

What it does for me is it makes me feel more energetic during the day. It helps me with my workouts. I feel more focused. 



Think about the engine of your car. If that is a beautiful well-kept engine, when you go to do your service, if the fuel lines are clean, the oil filter is clean and injectors are clean, your car is more likely to work perfectly. 

It’s the same with your heart. We take so much rubbish – pre workout, post-workout, inter-workout, fat burners, cheap vitamins, etcetera…when actually the most important thing is to simply make sure your heart and cardiovascular system is in great shape.
